Located in Bath, South West England, the collection housed at The Holburne Museum is that of the late Sir William Holburne, fifth baronet of Menstrie. His life-long interest in art and eagerness to collect were sparked by his travels to Europe, which included an eighteen-month Grand Tour to Italy and the Netherlands. Highlights of the collection include bronze sculptures, silver, porcelain and Dutch landscapes, which Sir Holburne was particularly fond of collecting.
For the £11.2m renovation project that included the restoration of the museum’s Grade I listed building and the construction of a new extension, we constructed all the new showcases.
Working with the designers from Metaphor, our team built various types of showcases, including recessed showcases that incorporate interactive drawer units, each of which presents a miniature display particularly aimed at a young audience. We also produced and installed large anti-reflective glass hoods to display delicate porcelain items, as well as innovative hanging showcases with a telescopic sliding opening system.
