From Antiquity to the Digital Age: 'Fake for Real' Opens in Kristianstad

Deception has played a major role in human history, ranging from ancient myths to modern internet hoaxes. The traveling exhibition Fake for Real is now open at the Regional Museum Skåne in Kristianstad to explore this complex topic. Produced by the House of European History, the display features over 100 objects. These range from forged medieval manuscripts to interactive examples of current disinformation campaigns. It encourages visitors to question how truth is defined and who gets to define it.

Meyvaert worked alongside Facts and Fiction to supply the complete infrastructure for this journey. We delivered conservation-grade showcases, flexible fit-outs, and audiovisual integration across six thematic chapters. A traveling exhibition requires a specific balance. The materials must be durable enough for frequent transport but refined enough to protect and present the artifacts beautifully.

The experience concludes with the "Era of Post Truth?" section, where visitors can test their own ability to spot fake news and algorithmic tricks.

This exhibition has already successfully toured Thessaloniki, Sofia, Budapest, and Gdańsk. It now brings these important questions to a Swedish audience. Fake for Real highlights why people are inclined to believe in forgeries and emphasizes the importance of staying critical. You can visit the museum until 6 September 2026 to see it for yourself.
