The museum & the collection

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library stands as a monumental beacon of knowledge and cultural enrichment in the heart of Dubai. Named after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, this state-of-the-art library is an architectural marvel that seamlessly blends modernity with a celebration of intellectual world heritage. Boasting an extensive collection of books, multimedia resources, and digital archives, the library is not only a repository of information but also a dynamic hub for research, innovation, and community engagement.

The assignment & the challenges

The Library’s exhibition on the Seventh Floor displays a fascinating assortment of rare and old books, atlases, and manuscripts dating back to the 13th century. The collection includes unique copies of the Holy Quran, early print editions of literary classics and Latin translations of scholarly works from the Islamic Golden Age. This comprehensive and impressive collection needed a compatible display that would fully do justice to their brilliance and finesse. The museum also welcomed the flexibility of tailoring the showcase arrangement to future developments of the Treasures of the Library.

The solutions & the result

We provided several modular cases, which were combined into long wall cases and freestanding cases. With customised internal plinths and setworks, the client was able to artistically and befittingly present the unique and rich collection of books and documents. Our installation team successfully installed the initial modular cases and provided assistance and training to the local staff, enabling them to independently demount and remount the cases.

This is a unique feature of our modular cases. Not only are they designed to accommodate the variations in evolving exhibitions, but they also present the possibility for the museum personnel to autonomously mount, combine, demount, and store them. This generates a remarkable and desirable freedom to organise exhibitions in a flexible and creative way. This is how the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library expertly put our showcases to use, in order to put their fine treasures representing humanity’s love for knowledge on a captivating display.
